The Music of Shannyn Sossamon

Shannyn Sossamon is one of the more quirkier people in Hollywood. She's great in offbeat movies like Wristcutters: A Love Story and she's able to cross the line into indie rock quite seemlessly. Sossamon and her sister, Jenny Lee Lindberg, started the band Warpaint back in 2004 performing mostly in Los Angeles. The line-up has changed but start with their first EP, Exquisite Corpse, and work your way up to their new stuff.

Cedar Rapids unites John C. Reilly (Cyrus) and Ed Helms (The Office) together for a buddy comedy. It has the prospects of being hilarious or... overwrought with its guy-silly tone. 

A naive Midwesterner insurance salesman travels to a big-city convention in an effort to save the jobs of his co-workers.

Trailer - Hanna

The new film from UK director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) stars Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement) as a 16-year-old killing machine! Ronan plays Hanna, who has been "raised from childhood to be the perfect assassin by her ex-CIA man father (Eric Bana) in rural Finland". Cate Blanchett plays "the ultimate target". Looks pretty badass. Also it was scored by The Chemical Brothers! Opens April 8th.

Keira Knightley in Last Night & London Blvd.

A couple of Keira Knightley films on the horizon, no official U.S. release dates but something to look forward to. First up...

Last Night tells the story of two couples and how one evening can build or break their relationships. Knightley stars alongside Sam Worthington and Eva Mendes in this tale of love, temptation and lust.

In London Boulevard Knightley plays "a reclusive young movie star who falls in love with a man newly released from prison who's caught in a duel with a vicious gangster." The trailer looks like The Bodyguard on steroids, but Knightley and Colin Farrell make interesting leads.

Criterion Collection Announces March Titles

My favorite distributors The Criterion Collection have announced three new titles for Blu-ray/DVD release this coming March! On March 22, the Oscar-winning documentary The Times of Harvey Milk (Robert Epstein, 1984) will come out. Then on March 29, Criterion will release Topsy-Turvy (Mike Leigh, 1999) and The Mikado (Victor Schertzinger, 1939).

Trailer - The Tree of Life

A trailer has been released for the new film by acclaimed director Terrence Malick! He rarely makes films (this is only his fifth since 1973) but when he does they are always amazing. Starting in the 50's, the film follows the journey of eldest son Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. The trailer is fantastic, showcasing Malick's beautiful visuals and offering a glimpse at the emotional storyline. Can't wait. Opens May 27th.

Christmas Cupid

ABC Family's Christmas Cupid starring Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Christina Milian (Love Don't Cost a Thing) is now available online. The story offers a modernized romantic comedy version of A Christmas Carol.

"a  high powered Hollywood publicist finds herself haunted by the ghost of her recently departed infamous client. With just days away from Christmas she goes on a journey to meet the ghosts of her ex-boyfriends from the past, present and future."

It's not awards related but it's the kind of upbeat movie to get you in the holiday spirit.

Golden Globe Nominations Announced

The nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globes were announced today! Period drama The King's Speech led with seven noms. You have probably heard about Jodie Foster's new movie where Mel Gibson plays a guy who begins to talk through a beaver puppet. Really. Well the trailer has been released and it's actually not as ridiculous as the premise sounds. It shows a very dramatic and sentimental film. Still not sure how it will turn out and whether or not it will be able to resurrect Gibson's career. Opens February 11th.

Trailer - No Strings Attached

What separates No Strings Attached from every other Ashton Kutcher movie? Natalie Portman, Greta Gerwig, Mindy Kaling and a script written by Liz Meriwether (who's part of Diablo Cody's Fempire). If the movie it lives up to the potential of the characters on the page it could be a fun watch.
